These hand made rugs are hand hooked using an ancient technique developed in the orient. This century old method has been combined with today's synthetic materials to create a beautiful, soft, luxurious rug that also can withstand the elements. The process begins with the manual stenciling of the design onto a special synthetic weather proof canvas material. The stenciled material is then stretched over a wooden frame. The weaver uses a hooking device, individually pushing a continuous bundle of plied yarns through the canvas material creating a looped pile for the face of the rug. When the weaving process is complete, the rug is removed from the wooden frame. A weatherproof binding adhesive is spread over the back of the canvas to hold the loops in place. Afterward, an open weave netting is attached to the back of the rug to hold shape and size. The edge of the canvas material is folded and secured under the backing, and the rug is finished! Because everything about these rugs is hand made, there are no two rugs that are exactly alike. These rugs work just as well indoors as out and have recently been discovered as floor treatments for dining rooms, kitchens, and bathrooms, where easy cleaning and quick drying is a must!
